Kiwi captain Benji Marshall and prop Fuifui Moimoi were both named in the International Team of the Year at the Rugby League International Federation's annual awards dinner in Leeds tonight.
The voting period, which ran from early October last year to early October this year, incorporated the 2008 Rugby League World Cup and the 2009 NRL and English Super League seasons but not the current Four Nations tournament.
Despite New Zealand's historic first World Cup victory over Australia, Marshall was the only member of the winning Kiwi team who won an award.
In the International Coach of the Year category, victorious Kiwi coach Stephen Kearney lost out to his Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy, who led the Storm to the NRL premiership but failed to win the State of Origin series. The other finalist for the award was Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore.
In the Team of the Year, Marshall was named at standoff while Moimoi won the prop's spot on the back of his NRL form for Parramatta.
The other seven positional awards in the Team of the Year went to Australians Jarryd Hayne (fullback), Greg Inglis (centre), Johnathan Thurston (halfback) and Cameron Smith (hooker) plus England's Ryan Hall (wing), Gareth Ellis (second row) and Kevin Sinfield (loose forward).
Hayne, who won the NRL's Dally M Player of the Year race in September, added the International Player of the Year award to his collection.
Hall was named the Rookie of the Year and Australia's Shayne Hayne was voted the Referee of the Year.
