Massey University became the first Palmerston North team to reach the final of the ASB Women's Knockout Cup by upsetting highly fancied Claudelands Rovers in Hamilton on Sunday to join Three Kings United in the August 26 showpiece.

Despite leading the Central League, Massey were underdogs heading up to face the Northern League leaders and 2010 Knockout Cup champions but paid little regard to the script when racing to a 3-0 halftime lead at Hamilton's Galloway Park.

Massey took advantage of a Rovers midfield depleted by injury and international call ups and were firmly on the front foot midway through the first half when Rhonda Bridges and Leah Gallie scored within four minutes of each other.

Emma Boyack netted either side of the break to make the game safe and a consolation goal to Claudelands player-coach Helen Collins eight minutes from time couldn't stop Massey's charge to their first final.

They'll meet Auckland's Three Kings United after the three times winners defeated last year's runners up Coastal Spirit 2-0 at a wet Keith Hay Park.

Jessie Mathews scored seconds before the halftime break to give the home side the edge in a closely fought match then fired home from a Chloe Knott corner nine minutes from fulltime to seal Three Kings' passage into their sixth final which is scheduled for North Harbour Stadium as part of a double header with the ASB Chatham Cup final.
