Mike Cron To Continue As NZRU Resource Coach

One of world rugby's leading scrummaging coaches, Mike Cron, has re-signed with the New Zealand Rugby Union as a resource coach through until 2011.

Cron has been coaching since 1982 and been an NZRU resource coach since 2004, and has been credited with dramatically improving New Zealand's forward play in that time.

"Mike Cron has made - and continues to make - a fantastic contribution at all levels of our game: from club and schools rugby, right up to the Rebel Sport Super 14 franchises and All Blacks," NZRU Professional Rugby General Manager Neil Sorensen said.

"He is world-class and one of the most innovative coaches operating in the world today and we are delighted to have him re-sign with the NZRU through until 2011," Mr Sorensen added.

Mike Cron first came to attention coaching the Canterbury provincial side, and has also coached in Japan, Italy, France, England, Ireland, Wales, the USA and Canada. He has also coached for the IRB in Samoa, Dubai and Kenya.

As an NZRU resource coach he works with all New Zealand's national teams, including the All Blacks, Junior All Blacks, New Zealand Under 20, Black Ferns and New Zealand Sevens teams. He also works with New Zealand's Rebel Sport Super 14 teams, Air New Zealand Cup and Provincial Union academy teams, New Zealand Schools and New Zealand Under 17 and is a tutor on the NZRU's High Performance coach development courses and the NZRU/Massey University Rugby Coaching Practicum.
