The NSW Swifts have today completed the Club’s 12-strong roster for the 2015 ANZ Championship with the signings of midcourter Taylah Davies and shooter Stephanie Wood .

Davies, 19, has been on the radar of the NSW Swifts for some time, having been a standout performer for NSW Representative Teams over a number of years. In 2014, Davies was selected in the Netball NSW Emerging Elite Squad and played for the NSW Swifts in the ANZ Championship pre-season tournament.

Last season, the attacking midcourter was called up as a replacement player for the NSW Swifts in Rounds Two and Three, before rupturing her ACL during her ANZ Championship debut against the Adelaide Thunderbirds. However, this naturally gifted sportswoman’s recovery from this knee injury has been excellent, with Davies set to be a valuable addition to the NSW Swifts’ roster next season.

Wood, 22, has just completed the 2014 Australian Netball League Finals Series with the Queensland Fusion, and has previously been a replacement player for the Queensland Firebirds in the ANZ Championship.

This creative and court smart goal attack has captained Queensland in underage competitions, was a member of the Australian U/21 team in 2011, and in the same year was the recipient of the coveted Gweneth Benzie Award; a honour given to a netballer on an AIS Scholarship who displays all the attribute to one day represent the Australian Netball Diamonds.

Wood joins long-time Swift Susan Pratley, Caitlin Thwaites and fellow newcomer Erin Hoare in the shooting line next season, a set-up which delights NSW Swifts’ Head Coach Rob Wright.

"I’m really excited about the versatility we have at our disposal in the shooting end next season," said Wright.

"Stephanie has been playing netball at a high level for a number of years and is a proven performer. Not only is Stephanie quick on her feet and accurate on goal, she is a clever netballer with a real maturity about her game."

The signing of Davies means the NSW Swifts have real depth in its midcourt stocks for season 2015, but as Wright explains, the recruitment of next year’s roster is part of a wider vision for the Club.

"We have a great blend of youth and experience in our midcourt line for next year, and while relatively young, Taylah has already shown she can match it with the best in the ANZ Championship," expressed Wright.

"As a Club we are fiercely determined to challenge for our second Premiership in 2015, however we do so with a conscious eye on the future and our vision to deliver sustained success, which is reflected in our recruitment over the past two seasons."

The announcement of both Davies and Wood, now finalises the NSW Swifts’ 2015 Roster which includes seven players with International Caps (in alphabetical order); Jade Clarke (England), Julie Corletto, Kimberee Green, Paige Hadley, Sharni Layton, Susan Pratley and Caitlin Thwaites.

"We have assembled a hugely exciting roster, which is chockfull of experience and versatility," remarked Wright.

"More importantly we have a group of players who not only complement each other, but all share a strong desire for continual growth and a natural drive to succeed," concluded Wright.

This high calibre roster along with the NSW Swifts’ revered match-day experience, are just two reasons why over 1,600 supporters have already become 2015 NSW Swifts Members since going on sale Monday 4 August. With the opening whistle of the 2015 ANZ Championship still six months away, late February 2015, the Club is well on track to smashing its all-time Membership record of 1,676 set in 2014.
