Auckland, Oct 21 NZPA - New Zealand have beaten Bangladesh by three wickets on the final day of the first cricket test at the Divisional Stadium in Chittagong today.

Set 317 for victory New Zealand reached 317 for seven midway through the final session.

Opener Aaron Redmond top scored with 79 while captain Daniel Vettori (76) and Daniel Flynn (49) also made telling contributions before Jacob Oram (8) and Kyle Mills (1) secured the victory.

Left arm spinner Abdur Razzak was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers with three for 93 off a marathon 50 overs.

The second and final test starts in Mirpur on Saturday.
