Cruden Bay

Don’t you just hate it when you come back from holiday and you’re reminded that you really should have gone there and done that.

Cruden Bay
is such a golf course.

Having been there done that several times back in the 60s it was time to return but Royal Dornoch got priority.

OK maybe it’s no secret to your average Scottish golfer but in my experience not many overseas golfers are aware of it as a great golfing experience.

The guy at top100golf reminded me of what I had missed.

He’s also been there done that but in spite of his determination to complete the top 100 courses he just had to go back.

Go to, top100golf.blogspot.com if you haven’t already done so and scroll down to his post for Friday May 01.

In case you are interested, here’s the other courses I played while over there.

Royal Tarlair

Fabulous seascapes and the 13th “Clivet” is a must play golf hole.

The Old Course at Moray Golf Club in Lossiemouth.

Take my advice, take some ear plugs. RAF Lossiemouth is the largest and busiest fast-jet base in the Royal Air Force and home to 3 operational squadrons of Tornado GR4s, the Tornado GR4 Operational Conversion Unit, and a Sea King Search & Rescue Flight.

And I swear every damned one of them flew over while playing this very fine 18 holes.

Here’s another piece of advice. Lossiemouth House is a very historic and enjoyable B & B.

Nairn Golf Club has hosted the Walker Cup and in 2012 will host the Curtis Cup and this should be sufficient incentive to play the course if you’re in the area.

I also popped in to see the new course and complex they are creating at Castle Stuart.

It should be sufficient to say that the guy who helped create Kingsbarns is involved in this project.

And a final note on things Scottish

Heather MacRae has become the first woman in 76 years to qualify for a Scottish professional golf event - and thinks the publicity will do it good.

The assistant professional at Gullane in East Lothian will play in the SPGA Championship at Gleneagles in June.
