“Norman suffers another Sunday stumble” is Keith Robinson’s headline at golfweek.com
Teeing off, Sunday morning at the U.S. Senior Open the Great White Shark was nibbling at the heels of Fred Funk but he lost his bite and ended up in fourth place.
For the record here’s the relevant passage from the transcript of the interview
Q. Can you just maybe review your round for us quickly?
Greg Norman: I don’t really want to review my round, no. Just wasn’t good. The middle patch wasn’t good. Just wasn’t good.
One wonders if he talked to Chrissie about it as they snuggled up that night in bed.
You may recall a remark Greg made at a previous U.S. interview.
"I have a wonderful teacher and the greatest thing about my coach -- she lets me sleep with her every night."
Which brings me to this headline, “Greg Norman's career back on track now Chrissie Evert's got it sorted”
Patrick Smith at The Australian goes on a shark attack .
Patrick writes, “He reckons if his new squeeze Chris Evert had been with him back when he was losing all those major championships things would have been very different.”
Yeah right! As they say here in Kiwiland.
And as Patrick points out, “Laura's thought processes must have been pretty good during his 88 international tournament victories and his two British Open wins but, apparently, she just got ornery at the Masters, the US Open and the US PGA.”
But wait there’s bitingly more from Patrick.
“Like the 1986 PGA when Bob Tway holed out from a bunker on the 18th. Bloody Laura. Or the US Open the same year when Norman shot a final-round 75 after leading. The bitch. Then a year later Larry Mize holes out from hell on the 11th, second hole of a play-off for the Masters. Quit playing with his mind, woman. Or in the 1989 British Open playoff when he whacked the ball dead into a fairway bunker. Damn you Laura.”
Patrick’s article is a great read as is the “Your comments” section.
The guy who’s “Pursuing golf’s holy grail” of playing the top 100 golf courses in the world has just posted his article on Cherry Hills.
The scene of Arnie’s famous charge.
Here’s a quote from “Top 100 golfer”
“The 1960 U.S. Open featured Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer vying for the lead. In the final round, as 'Arnie's Army' watched, Palmer uncorked a 346 yard drive to the par four, 1st green to start the greatest come-from-behind charge in Open history.”
And as usual he provides some great photographs.
Reading about Hogan reminded me what some have described as “Hogan’s Secret” – My golf tip for this post
An interesting insight and article from The New York Times
And here’s a wee bit about Hogan’s Secret.
"The Secret is the correct functioning of the right leg, with emphasis on maintaining the angle of the right knee on the back and forward swings. Combined with a slight cupping of the left wrist, it produces optimum balance and control, and allows you to apply as much speed and power as you wish."
