Sivivatu A `Silly Kid' For Sinbinning, Says Jane

By Mark Geenty of NZPA

Tokyo, Nov 1 NZPA - Cory Jane ticked both boxes; master of the one-liner and bona fide All Blacks rugby winger after another impressive display against the Wallabies.

And, showing his growing seniority in the All Blacks lineup after moving past out-of-favour winger Joe Rokocoko, he gave Sitiveni Sivivatu a sly dig after his sinbinning could have cost them victory at the National Stadium here last night.

"He was a silly kid, that's what I thought," Jane said of his fellow winger.

"We were under pressure but we did well and they only scored one try and we managed to scramble a bit harder. It was already a fast game but that added to it.

"To tackle a guy when he's about 8m in the air, not the best thing to do. He probably thought it was a good tackle. I'm not too sure."

Sivivatu was suspended for one test after being found guilty of a dangerous tackle on Adam Ashley-Cooper in the 34th minute, before the All Blacks finished strongly to win 32-19.

Jane was a threat in his limited touches and sent his Wellington teammate Conrad Smith away for a crucial second-half try with a half-break and pop pass.

"I just tried to get through myself and it didn't bloody work. I got it to him and he did all the work, he beat some good players."

Jane will almost certainly back up for his 10th test against Wales in Cardiff on Sunday morning (NZT), and will be a senior winger with Zac Guildford likely to debut in Sivivatu's spot.

His goals for the five-match European tour were simple, and he had a tongue-in-cheek message to the young pretenders in the 33-man squad.

"I've never been to France and Italy so that'll be something to tick off the atlas, and to play well because I don't want to go there on holiday.

"Just stay in the bloody team, that's the goal. Kick Zac and Benny Smith out, keep away from me, boys."

Smith admitted he felt rusty, playing his first test since suffering a hamstring strain against the Wallabies in August.

But he relished his return to the black jersey to confirm his status as one of the most consistent All Blacks of 2009 with the knack of scoring crucial tries, as he showed when brushing off James O'Connor's tackle.

He was overjoyed for Jane, who had made giant strides in recent years.

"You learn to know players and when I saw him inside me ... he's the sort of guy you just hang off and know he can create something. That's what I do, wait for other guys to make the space and he did it well.

"I've rated him highly for a long time, back when he was trying to crack the Hurricanes side. I always thought he could play at a lot higher (level)."
