Madness comes to town

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers diverting attention away from Saturday’s Wallabies Test claims the All Blacks recent wins are part of a conspiracy to promote the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

It is interesting that de Villiers has waited until he has arrived in Australia before making his allegations. I don’t know what it is about Australia but it always brings out the bizarre in de Villiers. He is always guaranteed to throw in an inflammatory quote for the media. I suppose John O’Neill who has admitted that Rugby Union is struggling in Australia will be glad of the coverage.

What happened Peter? Two weeks ago you were strutting around enjoying the view from the top of the rugby mountain. Now you are sitting in darkened TV studios peddling conspiracy theories about referees deliberately favouring the All Blacks to promote the Rugby World Cup. Anyone would think you had been thumped in a couple of Test matches or something.

The quote in question from Peter is ''I've got my own observations about the last two Tests, and I can't say it in public. But we do have a World Cup in New Zealand next year, and maybe it was the right thing for them to win the games so they can attract more people to the games next year.''

It might be good for everyone Peter if you could explain who ‘they’ are, because what you are implying is there is some campaign by the IRB, its referees and the New Zealand Rugby Union to manufacture interest in the Rugby World Cup by fixing games. This is not the WWF or boxing Peter. It is not decided beforehand who is going to win a test match.

We also have a background chorus to Peter’s solo effort from SARFU who are bleating about the suspensions given to Bakkies Botha and Jean de Villiers for foul play. SARU president Oregan Hoskins has instructed South Africa's representative on the SANZAR legal committee, Judge Lex Mpati, to ''take up'' the alleged “bias” in inconsistent rulings against the Springboks.

Botha used a head butt. De Villiers used a spear tackle and Danie Rossou kicked a guy on the ground. What was the referee supposed to do Mr. Hoskins?

Message to Peter de Villiers: STOP MOANING AND START COACHING YOUR TEAM - they are good enough to win they just need the right game plan. Free hint for you - last years one is not working.
