Indian fast bowler Sreesanth has had a face-off with Australian captain Ricky Ponting in todays ‘friendly’ warmup match for the Cricket World Cup.

In recent years Sreesanth has turned weird behaviour into an art form. In the latest installment, Sreesanth beat Ponting’s bat with a short ball and then went up for a massive appeal.

When his Bollywood special appeal was turned down he decided to get in Pontings face an indulge in some staring and batting advice.

Words were exchanged and Sreesanth walked away making an ‘L’ sign with his thumb and forefinger, as if to signify he thought Ponting was a ‘Loser’.

Sreesanth was once dumb enough to do a dance in front of South African fast bowler Andre Nel after he had hit Nel for six.

But the crowning glory that puts Sreesanth at the top of world crickets ‘annoying tree’ is for riling India team-mate Harbjajan Singh (the alledged annoying little weed himself) up so much in an IPL game that Singh gave him a slap in the face.

Cute lovable Sreesanth says he simply loves to show his emotions.

“I’m a very real person, not an actor,” he says.

“Maybe I could become a good actor. Though I am spiritual, I’m not sentimental.” Yeah got that Sreesanth but I thought you said you were not an actor. Now you are saying you could become a good actor.

But wait there is more. “I was national break dance champion when I was in the eighth grade,” he says. “I don’t really get time to dance now. I gave up dance for cricket”. That is not what Andre says.

For the record Australia got thumped, but maybe Sreesanth is the real loser.

I thought sreesanth was the

I thought sreesanth was the real winner in the match. he took his opportunity well and was the best indian pacer by a long distance and has given himself a good chance to get in first XI. By the way he danced at Nel after hitting a six and for the record Nel began the problem by first sledging sreesanth in the previous ball.

Quite right Daniel it was

Quite right Daniel it was Andre Nel. That's what happens when I don't do my normal facts double check. The memory is not always what it was especially after staying up half the night to watch the game. I appreciate the help.

I have no issues with Sreesanth's bowling, he is a first rate cricketer. It is some of the onfield antics that don't impress me much.

Another writer with no sense

Another writer with no sense of research. It was, as Daniel mentioned, Nel and not Steyn. Sreesanth is no angel but his behaviour was nothing compared to Ponting's child-like tirade against an Asian umpire when KP was given not out (quite correctly) in the Boxing Day test. Ponting's first over against Ashwin yday proved why Tendulkar and Lara will always be rated higher than him--the dude's got no clue against spin.

Thanks for the correction. I

Thanks for the correction. I Agree that Ponting is not quite on the same level as Tendulkar and Lara. I thought some of the shot selection in the Aussie innings was quite bizzare. They are going to miss Michael Hussey at this tournament.

Ponting has scored over

Ponting has scored over 12000 test runs and over 13000 ODI runs.

Are you still sticking to your comment that he has got no clue against spin?!?

@alanmac.. yes he has no

@alanmac.. yes he has no clue on how to play spin, especially when it comes to Indian conditions. STATS dont lie bro, particularly over 14 test matches and 4-5 series. Read this: 14 matches, 662 runs, avg: 26.48. Pretty poor I'd say for the best Aussie bat after the great Don. He makes Harbhajan seem like a Warne-Murali hybrid. :)

Sreesanth bowled really well

Sreesanth bowled really well in the match and troubled Ponting a lot with his deliveries..took the important wicket of Shane watson when all the other pacers were struggling.. And the team won in the end as well.. so.. from what i see, the author of this blog seems to be the real loser...
my advice: do some research (or at least watch the match) before writing such articles.. !

Thanks for taking the time

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I am NOT critisizing Sreesanths bowling just some of his onfield behaviour. I did watch the match. This column is purely a comment on the behaviour. I will do some match reports when the tournament starts. Then we can debate the cricket.

Seems like the blogger is

Seems like the blogger is the real loser here, neither Sreesanth nor Ricky are the losers, they did exchange words at the heat of the moment. It dosent mean that they actually mean it. Lets enjoy the game, until the confrontation goes physical..!!!

Cheers Anoop. Fair comment

Cheers Anoop. Fair comment that confrontation is part of the game. I am also happy to be labelled a loser if it makes you happy.

Dear Author, It was nice

Dear Author, It was nice reading your article especially to read the real passion with which you came hard on sreesanth... But dear brother, there is always something called facts and i am sorry that they have been overlooked.. Sreesanth is a world class bowler and we have to admit that. And when compared to the sledging of aussies, South africans and such others, the whole team india seems much always on the receiving end and that too receiving without any complaints.. Sreesanth is the lone cricketer from india who have shows the balls to stand back and reply to the sledging... and the naturally defensive indian culture find it hard to digest.. I respect him as a bowler and adore him for being the only real man in the indian team.. I adore you too for voicing your opinion, but just weight every side before writing an elaborate article like this... Thanks brother and hoping to read more from you...

Hi Shane I really appreciate

Hi Shane I really appreciate you taking the time to add to the debate. There is cetainly no question that Sreesanth is a world class bowler. As far as sledging goes Harbhajan is rightup there along with Brad Haddin and Ricky Ponting. Overall I would say the nicest and fairest team in world cricket is the Sri Lankans, closely followed by India.

True about sreesanth's

True about sreesanth's behavior, but the point to be noted here is that it looks to be India's gameplan in recent times that someone from the team would "annoy" Ricky Ponting and sledge something to him. Last test series in India, Zaheer Khan sledged after Ponting got run-out by telling him that he is becoming too old nowadays. That was unnecessary too. But what I think happening with India and Australia is that India were in receiving end from Ponting and his legends' sledging especially when they toured down under. And, nobody in India likes Ponting as a person for all the sledging he had done and surely the now consistent Indian team has made it a habit to give back all before punter's career is well over. bottomline is today Sreesanth is just made to do something to Ponting, may be as part of game plan. When someone sledges Ponting, his team really starts performing badly, which needs to be noted down by all other opponents. After all, sledging aussies is not a crime as they themselves know only too well.
