The Stanley Cup Final

We are two games in and have the same matchup as last season.  The Detroit Red Wings versus The Pittsburgh Penguins. You may have a sense of deja vu as the Red Wings are up 2-0. What can the Penguins do to stop them?

I love Ice Hockey, especially the NHL playoffs. This is the best time of the year. If your team is still alive then it is by far the most exciting time. (My favourite team the Dallas Stars didn't even make the playoffs, don't worry.... we'll be back!) The No. 1 seeds of both conferences dominated the regular season only to be thwarted in the playoffs. Poor San Jose & Boston.

Okay, the final is already on. Yes. The Detroit Red Wings are winning as they have started by winning both games on home ice with the same score of 3-1. They have had luck on their side scoring goals from unlikely players. Oh, that is playoff hockey! If you could buy a goal or two then you would be in the market as they are precious now.

Remarkably, Sidney Crosby & Evgeni Malkin have been more or less shut down by the defensive forwards and Defense men successfully. Sid the kid doesn't have a goal yet even.  So... this is over right?

Not yet... the series is going back to Pittsburgh. Home of Mario Lemieux in the steel city.  By far and wide this is the most important game for the Pens as any mistake now is too critical. The Red Wings just know how to make you pay and get the job done. That is undeniable. There are hardly any penalties so it is an even strength battle most of the game.

I have to say every time the critics and fans turn their back on Detroit net-minder Chris Osgood. He responds in a big way by keeping the puck out. I am surprised at how much of a gear change he makes in the post season he is an amazing athlete to be able to get into the zone when it matters the most.

The Pens have a horrible chance at coming back from here being the road team. However, they managed to beat the Washington Capitals in this same position. No offence to the Caps but they aren't the Wings though.

I believe in miracles. I am going to take a wicked punt and say the Pens do turn it around and win it on the seventh game. That would be quite a story and no one in Michigan would believe this or would have a few "choice" words to say about that.  That would indeed be a strange end to this season.

One things for sure. I have been a fan of hockey since the early nineties and the team that anyone has to respect the most is Detroit.  They are the elite of the modern era. C'mon Pens, have something to say as Malkin expressed himself in Game 2. It is not over until the 16th game is a W.
