A liitle bird told me. Actually it was Geoff Shackelford who had a link to Steve Elling's article, "PGA Tour big bird didn't like this tweet".
Steve writes,
"Cink is staying on Manhattan this week while playing at The Barclays and sent out a Twitter message Tuesday night complaining about his poor cellphone reception from his hotel, which as he pointed out, sits in middle of the world's media capital. Readers who had apparently experienced similar issues surmised that he has AT&T as his carrier, which he affirmed.
Apparently, his phone reception worked fine the following morning.
That's when Commissioner Tim Finchem called to ask him to stop ragging on key PGA Tour sponsors on his Twitter site. AT&T is the title sponsor at events in Pebble Beach and Washington, D.C., and now stands as the lone sponsor of multiple events on the U.S. tour."
It appears that Tim was not impressed with Stewart's "Tweet" however I can't find anything about Tim's response to Geoff Ogilvy's "Tweet" on his thoughts on Liberty National where they're playing this weekend's
Barclays.
Bill Pennington at the NYT has a great article about this new course.
"Liberty National, the host of the 2009 Barclays tournament, the first stage of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs, is a new and distinctive course in a region blessed with elite golf offerings. But from the beginning — it was first envisioned in 1992 — Liberty National was laid out along the New Jersey waterfront to take advantage of an unmatched vista: the Statue of Liberty, less than 1,000 yards away, the Manhattan skyline beyond, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the harbor all around."
Bill adds,
“In this site, it was always about the landmarks, even if they are off-site,” said Tom Kite, a former PGA Tour star and a co-designer of Liberty National with the veteran golf architect Bob Cupp. “How many holes can we position in a direction so you can see the Statue of Liberty, the skyline or the harbor? You went there and just let your imagination run wild.”
Aha! Here we have it, a wee bit about Geoff's thoughts on Liberty National from John Strege at golfdigest.com
"Liberty National: 'creating...discussion in the lunch room'
"Geoff Ogilvy posted on Twitter this regarding Liberty National Golf Club, site of the Barclays: "The course is creating a lot of discussion in the lunch room. Which is a good thing, I think."
It's tough to read between the lines, but suffice it to say that it does not come across as a ringing endorsement of the course. Earlier, he posted this: "Mid pro am tweet. If we play the course with these tees and these pins, and this wind nobody will get anywhere near even par."
He did later say it could be fun with "tees up a little, smart pins and a little less wind."
I've just checked the first round leaderboard at the Barclays and there's lots of under par so it looks like there's little wind---Alas
And providing me with the opportunity to remind you of the Scottish saying, "If there's nae wind, it's nae golf."
Hey Tim, I'm still waiting for the full leaderboard at pgatour.com to load, it's so sloooooooow
If I "tweeted" you can you have a wee word to someone about getting it up to speed? Maybe AT&T can help.
Here's my weekend tip for you. Go visit "Tom Watson's Secret to the Golf Swing"
It's a YouTube video and even if you've only got dial-up speed it's worth the wait
Guid gowfin' at the weekend
