TeamVodafone's Jamie Whincup has taken a clean sweep of the Sucrogen Townsville 400, leading home teammate Craig Lowndes, in today's final 200km race.
Qualifying ninth for Sunday's 72 lap race, the defending V8 Supercar Champion got a good start off the line, moving up into fifth and maintaining his position for the first half of the race.
Whincup moved into fourth on Lap 35 after Lowndes accidentally triggered the pit lane speed limiter in between Turn 11 and 12. The #1 Holden driver took his second pitstop on Lap 43 and an exceptionally quick stop by the TeamVodafone pitcrew moved him up three positions and into the race lead.
After regaining momentum Lowndes was also the beneficiary of a perfect pitstop, and a battle ensued between the TeamVodafone duo. Whincup held the lead over his teammate to secure his fifth race win of the season and 57th career win.
Jamie Whincup now holds a 100 point lead in the V8 Supercar Championship. Craig Lowndes is fourth on 1496 points.
TeamVodafone will head back to their Brisbane-based head quarters to prepare for their home event, the Coates Hire Ipswich 300 at Queensland Raceway from August 3-5.
