But wait there’s more! Well there’d need to be for that amount of money.

It’s a game with Michelle Wie.

Michelle is doing her bit to help raise funds for the LPGA. And when asked how much she thought she’d get from someone for the honour of playing a round with her at the Wednesday pro-am, Michelle said, “I was thinking $50.00”.

The rest is now part of Houston’s golfing history. And a lesson for Michelle to never sell yourself short.

Michael Maggi, a 43-year-old energy trader from Houston, bid $22,000.

Meanwhile in another part of the Lone Star state, Tex Mex is about to celebrate his 70th birthday.

My sincere best wishes, Lee Trevino for a very Happy Birthday.

As they say in Scotland, “Lang may yer lum reek!” (Long may your chimney smoke-Like if there’s smoke coming out of your chimney stack then you must still be alive and able to light a fire).

Jaime Diaz at Golf Digest interviews Lee at his French-colonial mansion in North Dallas.

And here’s my pic for “choice” comments.

It sounds like Tex Mex’s good taste goes beyond where he chooses to live. Also where he wishes to RIP

“You know, I'm going to be cremated. I've got two steel spacers in my back, and I have a steel plate in my neck with six screws. I told Claudia, when they deliver the ashes, I want her to reach in the urn, and if she doesn't find two spacers, a plate and six screws, it's not me. Claudia will spread my ashes somewhere. St. Andrews would be great.”

And this expression which I’ve just gotta use one day. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Lee’s talking about his hot streak during the ’72 Open at Murifield.

“Well, my chili was really running hot before I hit that chip on 17.”

And no doubt I’ll get a chilly look from my golf mates as I take money from them this weekend and say, “Geez guys my chili was sure running hot today.”

Lee also talks a wee bit about that famous chip which gutted Tony Jacklin at that memorable Muirfield event.

Jaime Diaz says and asks the question, “You watch a lot of golf on television. What do you think of the announcing?”

Lee once again shows excellent taste when he says, “I always liked Henry Longhurst…”

FYI, just in case you don’t get round to reading this excellent interview. Lee reckons today’s announcers talk way too much. Perhaps they should take a leaf from Henry’s book (Nope they’d never be allowed to in these PC days) and take a bottle(s) of Scotch up the tower and thereby take their mind of talking.

Lee has quite a bit to say about Tiger which I’d love to comment on but gotta go and try some of Lee’s ideas for playing better golf-You never know with this game. From out of nowhere you start running chili hot.

I’ll leave you with another one from Jaime’s article.

Q Where do you think Tiger is with his game?

A  “As much as Tiger works at the game, as good as he is and with all the shots he knows how to hit, I can't believe he can't figure out a way to drive the ball straight. The key to golf is the driver. If you don't have the key, you can't start the car…I don't think he should be playing graphite. I think he should find a lightweight steel, and I think he should go back to a 43¾- or 44-inch driver.”

Here’s the link to Jaime’s article

Guid gowfin’ at the weekend and sincerely hope the only person running chili hot is you.
