Vodafone Warriors Stage Ladies' Night To Mark Women In League Round

Auckland, New Zealand, June 11, 2009 - The Vodafone Warriors are giving rugby league a feminine focus with their 'Ladies' Night' promotion for tomorrow night's 14th-round NRL clash against Newcastle at Mount Smart Stadium.

It's all part of the NRL's Women in League Round which highlights and celebrates the huge contribution women make to the game at all levels. A series of promotions highlighting the theme have been held this week and tomorrow night the Vodafone Warriors put their own stamp on proceedings as they mark their first Friday night home game of the year with their 'Ladies' Night' initiative.

"It's a great idea to have the Women in League Round and a fantastic opportunity for us to make a real fuss of our female fans," said Vodafone Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah. One of the highlights of 'Ladies Night' will be the Herald on Sunday best-dressed competition. Female fans wanting to make a special night of it have been invited to dress up, head to the D Zone at Mount Smart Stadium from 5.30pm tomorrow to walk the red carpet and have their photo taken with a stand-in 'Steve Price'.

There'll be an exclusive Ladies' Tent area with the first 300 entrants receiving an exclusive goodie bag full of exciting products. The female fan judged to be the best dressed will win a trip for four to Sydney, a Vodafone 3G mobile, a Samsung digital camera, Bendon lingerie, Canterbury of New Zealand supporters' gear and a $500 Ed Hardy voucher.

While match day sponsor the Herald on Sunday is running its special promotion, lots of other events will be happening before, during and after the NYC and NRL matches on the night (the Vodafone Junior Warriors kick off against the Knights at 6.15 and the Vodafone Warriors start their clash against Newcastle at 8.35). Other features include:

Complimentary tickets for a group of Auckland Rugby League women volunteers The Spy VIP Lounge being hosted by APN The Vodafone Warriors' most fanatical fan competition ZM Warrior Princesses competition Free bubbles on arrival at all corporate lounges The chosen charity of the day is South Auckland Health (Breast Screening Unit) Singer/songwriter Iva Lamkum performing before the main game and at half-time Bendon Man Cheer Team performing before the main game and at half-time

The Penrith Panthers will wear an all-pink kit in their match against Manly on Saturday night and in every game but that one (because of the colour clash) the Steeden footballs being used will also be pink.

While there is a pink theme around the Women in League Round, black is very much the colour of choice for the Vodafone Warriors tomorrow night. In keeping with its tradition for night games at home, the club has again called on all fans to create a blackout experience at Mount Smart Stadium by dressing in black.
