New Zealand sport technology company VX Sport is in the running to win the new products competition at the prestigious ISPO sporting equipment fair in Munich with their GPS-enabled sports performance measurement system.
The system, which incorporates a small data-reporting device and a comprehensive software package has been used by a range of elite athletes across New Zealand, the UK, Australia, Japan and South Africa - and enables athletes, coaches and sports conditioners to measure and evaluate an athlete's physical performance output and training history.
But there's a snag - the new products competition relies on public voting - and voting closes on Monday 30 November!
"We didn't realise that the timeframe for voting was so tight," says Richard Snow, Managing Director of Visuallex Sport International. "We know we've got a great product, and we would love to fly the flag for Kiwi sporting technology."
In addition to providing in-depth sporting analysis, the product also has potential in the area of personal rehabilitation, after significant events like heart attacks or injury. "VX Sport has consulted with a vast range of people to create a system with biomechanical force analysis. With an aging global population, this device has multiple applications and has huge export potential," says Snow.
ISPO, the world's largest sports equipment fair, will be held in Munich in February 2010. The winner of the new products competition gains extensive global exposure to key sporting markets as a trend-setting, innovative product.
Snow is proud to keep as much of VX Sport's development as possible based in New Zealand and wants to show the world what Kiwis can do: "We've developed world-leading technology that we believe can't be matched anywhere across the globe," says Snow. "The product is virtually 98 percent locally developed and manufactured."
