Warriors honoured with new burger

Major sponsor Wendy's unveiled an all-new Vodafone Warriors Burger, exclusive NRL player cards and a television commercial at a special launch event at its Otara store tonight.

Vodafone Warriors captain Simon Mannering, Otara-raised Manu Vatuvei, Jacob Lillyman, Feleti Mateo, Lewis Brown, Konrad Hurrell, Sam Lousi and another Otara product Sio Siua Tauikeiaho were all on hand as on-kit sponsor Wendy's further underlined its support of the club with an all-encompassing triple play game plan.

The television commercial, featuring Mannering, Brown, Lousi and Carlos Tuimavave, was given its first airing in public. It was shot in March to launch the Vodafone Warriors Burger, which goes on sale from next Monday (May 7). Wendy's has been working with the Vodafone Warriors to develop the special burger, calling on expert input from the club's sports nutritionist Gavin Clearkin.

Wendy's CEO Danielle Lendich said the end result was exciting for the company and for all Vodafone Warriors supporters.

"The Vodafone Warriors Burger is an irresistible combination of 100 per cent pure, fresh North Island prime beef, avocado and ranch sauce, as well as all the crisp vegetables that Kiwis love," she said.

Mannering and his team-mates were given the honour of the first test drive and immediately gave Wendy's the tick of approval for the novel Vodafone Warriors Burger. So did the other guests in the Otara store who all had the chance to sample the latest burger on the market.

Enjoying the fare more than anyone else were the enthusiastic members of the Otara Scorpions' under nines team, who essentially stole the show as they revelled in the opportunity to meet their heroes; Vatuvei and Taukeiaho both played for the Scorpions.

Among the others in attendance were representatives from other Vodafone Warriors sponsors, Vodafone Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah, welfare and education manager Jerry Seuseu, other office staff and family plus Vodafone Warriors members and other fans. One of the group was Vatuvei's wife Jennifer who, it transpires, used to work at Wendy's Otara.

While the Vodafone Warriors Burger went down a treat so did the Wendy's Vodafone Warriors Player Cards, which have been produced exclusively for the 17 Wendy's stores (three more stores are due to be opened this year).

Packs of cards come free with the Vodafone Warriors Combo and for just $1 per pack with any other product. There are three cards per pack and there are 32 cards to collect.

The player card handbooks, available at all Wendy's restaurants for just $4.60, are packed with information about the players as well as having space to collect autographs.

Wendy's will be handing out player cards and the handbook at Saturday night's home game against the Broncos. It will have trading nights for the cards on its website - www.wendys.co.nz - while Vodafone Warriors players will be making three Wendy's store visits to Constellation Drive on the North Shore on May 16, Otara on July 11 and Te Atatu on August 1.

Wendy's began its partnership with the Vodafone Warriors in 2008, re-signing last year to the end of 2014 as one of the Vodafone Warriors' major partners.
