Webber Wins British F1 Grand Prix: 'Red Bull Gives You Wing(s)' - Then Takes It Away

Mark Webber has won the British F1 Grand Prix in a race that has made more headlines about off the track antics than the race itself.

In an extraordinary finish Webber crossed the line and muttered the now immortal line "not bad for a number two driver'. Webber is the designated No.2 driver for the Red Bull team with Sebastian Vettel in the No.1 spot. Now in toilet terms a No.2 is s**t and that is often what a No.2 driver in a team gets treated like.

It must have been a sweet moment for Webber to get the chequered flag and win his third Grand Prix of the season. The reason for his sarcasm? The previous day a new wing that was being used on his car in practice was taken off him and put on Vettel's car. Apparently this caused an uproar in the Red Bull ranks with the extraordinary scenes of Webber's half of the Red Bull garage taunting Vettel's crew at the end of the race.

Webber had hinted at trouble on Saturday when he said a little bitterly (after Vettel had pipped him for pole position) that the team "had got the result they wanted".

Red Bull Team Principal - Christian Horner, had tried to smooth over Webbers finish line comments as a "throw away line".  But Webber was already blasting more holes in the thin public veneer of team unity over at the Drivers Press Conference by saying “I would never have signed a contract for next year if I believed that was the way going forward,” he said. “I was disappointed (talking about Saturday). We will see how it goes in the future, I will keep doing what I am doing and I hope it is enough.”

Hardly a public relations triumph but it adds further spice to a Formula 1 Championship that is wide open and seeing some of the best racing (and drama) in years. Who would have predicted that Lewis Hamilton would come second in his home Grand Prix and the headlines would all go to an Australian who was grumpy with his own team.
