Apple's New iPhone Available In NZ Soon

New Zealanders will be able to get their hands on Apple's new speedier model iPhone in July or August.

Apple previewed the new 3GS, which includes a video camera, today in the United States.

Company vice president of marketing Phil Schiller made the announcement at an annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco .

The new phone, the first model to capture video, will be available in the United States on June 19.

Vodafone will sell the phone in New Zealand, but spokesman Paul Brislen told NZPA it was not yet known how much it would cost.

The company already had the contract to sell the original iPhone, and the new version would be sold under that contract.

Telecom did not sell the original iPhone, and would not speculate on whether it would sell the new version.

Telecom spokesman Mark Watts said hypothetically iPhone buyers would be able to put their XT sim card into the phone if it was not locked, as was the case with a wide range of devices.

Apple also announced today a price drop of its 3G iPhone to $US99 ($NZ160) from $US199.
