Holiday Gifts for Geeks

With only 80 shopping days to Christmas, it's time to start thinking about the geek in your life especially when you have to mail order the perfect gift from overseas.  These items walk the line between gift and gag and point out the unique side of technology.

1. The USB Fruit Hand Warmer + Massager - This item will not only help keep your hand warm during extra cold days at the office but it comes with a built-in massager to get the blood flowing in your hand.  Perfect for office drones who spend way too much time in the office, and at $12 a pop, it makes for one zany gift!

2. Gag GPS System - Motion-Activated Wisecracking GPS! - This GPS unit will definitely tell you where to go... though you may not want to hear it! Motion activated gag unit says 20 different wisecracks (10 phrases per setting) with a backlit screen for nighttime use. You can purchase it from Things You Never Knew Existed.

3. Computer Ecobutton™ - Okay, this one is even good for non-geeks and it is not even a gag. Stop throwing money away. Your computer wastes a lot of energy when it goes idle but you can easily change that. One click of the Ecobutton™ activates the most economical sleep mode available. Tap any key to instantly continue where you left off. Even keeps track of the electricity & money saved and helps you reduce your carbon footprint. Illuminated so you don't forget to use it!

4. Enter and Ctrl Keys Card Reader - There seems to be an endless stream of reuses for keyboard keys and this four slot card reader uses the control and enter keys. The control key is just a cap for the USB plug. This reader supports a whole slew of formats including SDHC 2.0, SD, micro SDHC, microSD/T-flash, Sony M2, Memory Stick, and MS Duo. It supports Window Vista/XP/2000 and Mac OS. Pretty cool and it comes in dark blue or white.

5. USB hamburger hand warmer mouse pad  -  It’s not that I doubt how useful it would be to have a device to warm your hand while you browse the internet.  I’m more curious as to why it had to be a hamburger.  One thing’s for sure, it does look nice and cushioned, which would add to your comfort while you work.  If you’d like to jam your hand into a fake hamburger on a regular basis, you can purchase this mouse pad for $14 from Gadget4all. If you prefer, you can choose the strawberry edition from USB Brando.

6. - Glow in the Dark Keyboard Stickers -Does your keyboard need a little freshening up? Would you like to be able to see them in a dark room? It's time for the Glow in Dark Keyboard Stickers! Made of high quality fluorescent print, the Glowing Keyboard Sticker Set reflects any ambient source of light - even the dimmest sort like the glow of your monitor.  Make the keyboard letters illuminate in a crisp clear bright light that, literally, glows in the dark!

7. USB Office Fairy Lights - Twinkle, twinkle, little fairy lights, how you give my laptop an angelic glow! Sorry, the Office Fairy Lights are giving me a poetic feel of sitting under the stars. The Office Fairy Lights is a string of star-shaped lights that decorate your PC magnificently! You probably never thought about how boring your PC is, but once decorated with the Fairy Lights, you'll wonder how you ever got any work done before without them!

8. Lunch Box Warmer Bag - The 12V+USB Lunch Box Warmer Bag is specially design for office workers or anyone who doesn't want microwave oven heated food.  After you plug the lunch warmer box into the USB port or car cigarette socket, the warmer bag will be heated by the built-in warmer pad and kept around 50 degree, so you can enjoy your lunch at anytime.

9. USB Missle Launcher - The arms race is on. The workplace has become a dangerous place, but once upon a time, it was all a laugh. Back in the day, your workmates chased each other with squirt-guns, then disc-guns. Everybody laughed when somebody brought in the harmless Airzooka. Gleefully, somebody brought in a marshmallow blaster.  But with the USB Missile Launcher your geek will rule the office.

10. Wi-Fi Detector Shirt - Hate to have to crack open your laptop just to see if there is any wi-fi internet access about? Well you can display the current wi-fi signal strength to yourself and everyone around you with this stylish Wi-Fi Detector Shirt. The glowing bars on the front of the shirt dynamically change as the surrounding wi-fi signal strength fluctuates. Finally you can get the attention you deserve as others bow to you as their reverential wi-fi god, while geeky chicks swoon at your presence.

Pretty cool, thumbs up, even

Pretty cool, thumbs up, even with the glaring proofreading that was lacking in point 7. One thing I've noticed about the blogs on this site, no-one has the time to include links to pictures on their blogs. Surely at least the tech-geek blogger knows how to overcome this?

Hmmm - I found multiple

Hmmm - I found multiple errors in section 7 - hopefully I fixed the one you found!

I do try and mix in some videos and graphics in some of my posts on Voxy, but probably not enough. Posting graphics on the content management that Voxy uses is a little harder than on some other systems - but you make a great point to include some more!

Ironically I meant post 8.

Ironically I meant post 8. 7 was actually ok (generally, one human being to another) but 8 made my eyes bleed a little :o)
