Sony has unveiled the VAIO X Series, featuring an extremely thin and light chassis as well as exceptional battery life.

Extreme design: The VAIO X Series is designed to be the world’s lightest notebook* weighing just 655 grams.

It is not only light but also breathtakingly thin measuring just 13.9 mm fully flat, about the width of a mobile phone. An additional long life battery is available which provides up to 16 hours of continuous use, making the VAIO X the perfect road warrior companion.

Agility on the go: Thin and light doesn’t mean sacrifice. The VAIO X features a high quality, wide 11.1” LCD backlight screen with 1366 x 768 pixels, comfortable typing on a 17 mm key pitch isolation keyboard and new touch pad with convenient multi-finger gestures like zoom and flick navigation.

It is equipped with wireless LAN for an office network or internet surfing and there are various interfaces, such as VGA, LAN port and built-in webcam to enhance the essential usability in business scenes.

In spite of the extreme mobility, performance is not neglected. By the combination of the latest Intel® Atom™ Processor Z550 (2 GHz) (VPCX117LGB), solid state drive, and Windows® 7, the VAIO X provides an excellent business experience. Optional accessories include a luxurious slip case in genuine leather.

Defined quality: VAIO’s years of advanced technology provides superb reliability. The groove running along the outer edge of the LCD and palmrest is not just a design. It is structured to minimise distortion from external pressures with the help of a Rigid Arc Structure.

In addition, the housing is made out of carbon, and the palmrest is moulded out of a one-piece aluminium plate to further increase the strength. The VAIO X is put through intensive durability tests, such as 150 kg of pressure-vibration test, to prove its ability to perform in active real-life situations.

The Sony VAIO X Series will be available from selected Sony retailers and Sony Style stores nationwide from 22 October 2009. The recommended retail prices are:

* $2399.95 (VPC-X113KG/B, Atom Z540/1.86GHz, 64GB SSD drive, Windows 7 Premium, up to 3.5 hours battery life)
* $2599.95 (VPC-X115LG/B, Windows 7 Professional, up to 6.5 hours battery life)

I am pretty sure the Macbook

I am pretty sure the Macbook Air has since beat the Sony with being the lightest. If there are any Vaio X users here -- have you had any system problems with yours? I've been constantly being bothered by error 0x80070570.
