TelstraClear Underlines Commitment To Christchurch

TelstraClear's new Christchurch retail store underlines its position as the provider of an innovative network that offers its customers a "triple play" package of superior broadband, digital TV and mobile and fixed line voice services.

TelstraClear's Head of Consumer Markets, Steve Jackson, says the retail store's opening follows two other recent investments by the company in its core network to give its Christchurch customers access to broadband speeds currently unmatched by anyone else.

"We have recently completed a $10 million upgrade to our Docsis3 technology, and have also installed the next-generation optical equipment on our network.

"The upgrade means that with effect from October 2010 all of our InHome broadband plans will now have a minimum speed of 15mbps downstream and 2mbps upstream.

"More exciting is the fact the upgrade means our network has the proven capacity to support download speeds of up to 100 megabits per second in the future.

"This means our network capability is already far ahead of the Government's 10-year ultra fast broadband plan, which also aims to deliver 100 megabits per second.

"As a result our Christchurch customers will be in the box seat to take advantage of superior broadband at the furthest reaches of New Zealanders' aspirations.

"Visitors to the Christchurch store can experience what it's like to have TelstraClear's triple play InHome residential service delivered via our state-of-the-art network.

"The store provides the all important 'face-to-the-name' and staff will demonstrate the services and sign up customers in store," Mr Jackson says.

The store stocks a large range of technology focused products, including mobile handsets, iPods, routers and cordless phones. It will also showcase TelstraClear's soon-to-be-launched TBox Personal Video Recorder.

TelstraClear CEO Allan Freeth will officially open the Colombo Street store today. As part of the opening, TelstraClear is recognising and rewarding some of its most loyal Christchurch customers.
