Toughest Handset Gets Three Year Guarantee

29 APRIL 2009 - Calling all boaties, chippies, builders, wind surfers, fisher-folk and general klutzes.

Vodafone's new XP3 mobile is our toughest mobile yet, designed to withstand the wear and tear of everyday life. The XP3 is built to survive 30 minutes submerged to 1m depth, is certified against salt corrosion, humidity, shock and heat. It can even survive a drop from up to 2m onto concrete.

The XP3 has an operational temperature range of between -20C and +55C so take it to the beach in the summertime or up the mountain come winter.

Vodafone and handset maker Sonim are so confident in the capabilities of the XP3 that if you do manage to break it with everyday use in the first three years, we'll replace it.

"Modern life isn't all lattes and ergonomic seating. When you're out on your bike, on the boat, up a mountain or down a crevasse, the XP3 can cope with the things life throws at you and still keep you in touch with your loved ones. Or the office," says Vodafone's director of sales Grant Hopkins.

Bob Plashcke, Sonim CEO says "If you're standing on a construction site with a welding tool in your hand, or are sitting in a catamaran with a hard wind in your face, you really don't need a fashion accessory nor a multimedia monster, you need a dependable working tool, built for extreme conditions."

And for those customers who lead a slightly less exciting life, but who still want a phone they can take with them wherever they go, Vodafone offers the XP1, the baby brother to the XP3. Splash proof rather than waterproof, the XP1 retails from $599 (handset only) while the XP3 retails from $799 (handset only).
