Whenever something becomes popular, everybody and every company rushed into to take advantage.  The success of the iPhone has encouraged companies like Zippo, Stanley and Betty Crocker to find a way to place their brand and advertising on in the App Store.

The Virtual Zippo Lighter brings the look and feel of Zippo’s iconic lighter to the iPhone, with interactive action that copies the real Zippo. You can see this Zippo app in action on YouTube.  With a flick of the you can open the lighter and lights with a turn of the flint wheel and the truly windproof flame sways as the device is moved back and forth. The Virtual Zippo Lighter allows you to experience the famous Zippo concert moment by holding their cell phones aloft and swaying to the music at concerts.  I guess with fewer folks smoking, Zippo needs a new market!

Another manufacturer that does not want to be replaced by technology is Stanley, a worldwide supplier of consumer products and industrial tools .  They claim to be the first tool manufacturer to launch an iPhone and iPod Touch application with the introduction of the STANLEY Level. The STANLEY Level uses the accelerometer, a digital gyroscope technology located in iPhone to generate an understanding of where the device is in space and this creates a simulation of a traditional level.  There are plenty of other iPhone levels including Free Level and iHandy Level, but only "The STANLEY Level application combines more than a century's worth of hand tool manufacturing experience with today's latest digital technology," said Kevin Udy, channel manager for The Stanley Works.

If kitchen tools are more your thing, then turn to the expert who’s been answering those questions for decades. Betty Crocker is here to help you with this mobile version of the world-famous Betty Crocker Cookbook.  This free application puts more than 4,000 tried-and-true recipes at your fingertips – and it’s fully loaded on your iPod Touch or iPhone, so it’s lightning-quick and doesn’t require a wireless or 3G connection.

Oddly enough, even though there are a myriad of battery programs on the iPhone, the big battery brands have not yet shown up.  I can only imagine that will change soon as companies continue to flock to the iPhone as the place to be to get free advertising.
