Nine NPC teams can mathematically still make the top 4 making this one of the closest Provincial Championships in years in order of making the playoffs.
So who in the NZRFU are the lucky guys to decide which four teams are relegated to the new first division next year? The Air NZ Cup competition has been a wide open contest with plenty of upsets and a ton riding on each game.
The Ranfurly Shield appears to be quite safe in Canterbury’s hands & with the All Blacks set to return to the competition it really looks like it’s not going anywhere. Northland is the latest challenger then Manawatu & Southland remain.
The Canterbury Red Devils won (their first trophy) the New Zealand Ice Hockey championship for 2009. This weekend concludes the season with the inaugural All Star game which the best players of the competition battle for the Glass Family Shield.
We are now over halfway through the NPC competition. You cannot tell from here who is playing the best rugby and could win everything. It has been a very tight competition for the most part. Upsets galore. The Super rugby unions have had to work harder to win in the competition.
Head Like A Hole have reformed to put on a stonking national tour with guests Luger Boa. After Booga Beazley (Lead singer) had some rest after being in hospital for putting an axe through his foot.
Last week the All Blacks gave their helping hands to provincial teams to help the standings out. It has been a very close start that even Harbour & Counties are not out of the picture yet. The Aussies put on a brave & determined show to beat the Springboks convincingly 21 – 6.
The fifth round of the competition saw the Shield move from Wellington to Canterbury in emphatic style. Auckland won the first John Drake boot trophy. Three very close games by two point wins, An Otago & Waikato team finding some good form.
