Clutha District Libraries Summer Reading Challenge – Clutha District Council

The Clutha District Libraries Summer Reading Challenge is back for summer and this year’s theme is ‘Finding Treasure’.

The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all ages and stages. The importance of the challenge, especially with children and teens, is to help prevent the dreaded ‘summer slide’, meaning a dip or slide in your child or children’s reading ability.

Clutha District Libraries manager Debbie Duncan says, “Our programme helps to encourage your child, to keep their mind active over summer, promoting a positive summer activity that can be done virtually anywhere, anytime.”

Finding Treasure will be available at all five Clutha District Libraries. Signups are available in your local Community Library or online through the Clutha District Council Libraries website.

From 1 December 2023 through to 31 January 2024 participants are encouraged to complete the treasure map, with incentives along the way. Incentives include a free swim voucher and book for children, a book voucher for teens, and an entry into the district wide hamper for adults.

“Each year the programme has successfully helped to keep reading alive in households throughout the district over summer. The Clutha District Libraries Summer Reading Challenge provides an opportunity to enjoy reading simply for pleasure, escaping into familiar stories or finding new ones to excite and delight.”
