In the spirit of giving back to the community that they live and work in, Kaiapoi-based excavations specialists SES Contracting have organised a Christmas gift collection for the children and young people of youth mentoring charity, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Canterbury.
Jess Teika of SES Contracting expressed the company’s commitment to social good, saying; “As part of the North Canterbury community, we really wanted to be able to give back and help contribute where needed. Not only do we work here, but we live here along with our three children. The Big Brothers Big Sisters programme is an amazing cause that supports so many children and families, and if us being able to help in some way brings a smile to a face – that’s the best Christmas gift.”
Well known for its impactful work across Waimakariri and Hurunui, Big Brothers Big Sisters identifies young people in need of a mentor and an extra friend, and matches them with safe and trusted adult role models. For one hour, once a week, ‘Bigs’ and ‘Littles’ spend one-on-one time together, sharing hobbies and interests, helping to build positive relationships that are critical to childhood development.
In response to this heartwarming initiative, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Canterbury Manager Ellie Le Gros says; “With so many struggling, particularly at this time of the year, it warms our hearts knowing there are people like Jess and her husband Adrian who are thinking about what they can do to help others. We couldn’t do the work we do without the generosity of our supporters and for the third year in a row SES Contracting have donated Christmas gifts for all of the children in our programme. We are so grateful for their ongoing support.”
